Korean Russians: Definition
- Koreans with Russian nationality, North Korean nationality, or without any nationality that remains in Sakhalin after being commandeered or drafted to Sakhalin by Japan before World War II; and their immediate descendants.
Nationality acquisition method of Korean Russians
- In case of 1st generation Koreans(born before August 15, 1945)
- If they have family registry: apply for reinstatement of nationality
- If they don’t have any family registry(removal): apply for nationality determination
※ 2nd or 3rd generation Koreans may be candidates for naturalization or reinstatement - During recovery of nationality and naturalization, the application procedure of Korean Chinese is applied as it is.
Candidates for nationality determination application among Korean Russians
- Among Korean Russians of 1st generation, the people who have obtained permanent residence from minister of foreign affairs and trade can conveniently acquire Korean nationality with nationality determination procedure.
Nationality acquisition procedure by nationality determination of Korean Russians
- Korean Red Cross applies for permanent residence permit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade → Review and decision of permanent residence return by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade → Application of nationality determination by Ministry of Justice → Review by Ministry of Justice and the notification of judgment result to applicant and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade → Go through the family registration procedure at the family court in jurisdiction.

Submission Documents at the time of nationality judgment
- The submitted documents may be added or subtracted in case it is recognized necessary.
- Nationality determination application
: attach 1 color photo (4㎝×5㎝) - Fill out 2 Identified Guarantee Descriptions, make 2 copies (attach photo)
- Family registry of the applicants or relative living in Korea and other documents to justify blood relationship at the time of birth
- If applicants have history of acquiring foreign nationality, documents proving that fact (the copy of that country’s passport can replace this) and the progress of acquiring that foreign nationality.
- The foreign passport, travel certificate or entry permit used at the time of entry in case of the person who entered Korea and keeps address or residence after living in a foreign country.
